Exploring Holidays: Then and Now

This term, we have been diving into the topic of holidays, exploring how people have enjoyed time away both in the present day and in the past. Recently, we focused on seaside holidays and discovered some fascinating similarities and differences between how they are celebrated today and during the Victorian era. From sticks of rock and donkey rides to fairs on the pier, the children were fascinated by how many traditions have lasted through time.
One aspect that particularly caught their attention was the traditional Punch and Judy puppet shows. Inspired by this, our learners decided to step into the role of puppeteers themselves. Working together, they created their own puppets, planned simple but entertaining storylines, and wrote scripts for their very own shows.
The project culminated in Class 5 live performances for their peers. It was a brilliant opportunity for the children to practise storytelling, teamwork, and creativity — all while having plenty of fun along the way.
We are so proud of their effort and imagination, and we look forward to seeing what exciting discoveries the rest of the term will bring!
